African Public Theology Initiative (APTI)

The African Public Theology Initiative (APTI) equips Christian leaders, scholars, and theological institutions to reflect biblically and theologically on the public implications of the Christian faith. At the heart of the initiative is one question:

How do African Christians understand and live out their faith in the public square?

APTI strengthens the capacity of theological institutions and the Church to engage the pressing challenges facing African societies, including poverty, corruption, conflict, environmental stewardship, and sustainable development. In doing so, the initiative advances ACTEA’s vision to see a vibrant African church transforming society.

APTI’s Three Pillars

Ecclesial Engagement

Rooting public theology in the life, mission, and witness of the Church, equipping congregations and Christian leaders to faithfully engage their communities.

Academic Engagement

Strengthening theological education through research, curriculum development, publications, faculty development, and institutional capacity building.

Prophetic Engagement

Equipping Christian leaders and theological institutions to offer courageous, biblically grounded, and contextually relevant witness to the challenges facing society.
