ACTEA offers four membership categories designed to support institutions at different stages of their quality assurance journey. For most institutions, the typical pathway is:

Associate Membership → Provisional Accreditation → Full Accreditation

Fully Accredited Member

ACTEA’s highest level of recognition, awarded to institutions that demonstrate substantial compliance with all ACTEA Standards.

Provisionally Accredited Member

Granted to institutions that substantially meet ACTEA Standards and have the capacity and commitment to achieve full compliance within three years (renewable once).

Associate Accredited Member

Available to theological institutions and Christian universities that already hold recognized accreditation. ACTEA reviews the accreditation report from the relevant accrediting agency and, where appropriate, recognizes it for Associate Accredited Membership.

Associate Non-Accredited Member

Designed for theological education providers, Christian organizations, and institutions that support theological education but are not yet seeking ACTEA accreditation. It also serves as the usual entry point for institutions wishing to build a relationship with ACTEA before pursuing accreditation.
